I am honored to submit my candidacy for the position of Treasurer and Education Chair of the Southern Headache Society (SHS). Having been actively involved in this organization for many years, I have witnessed its evolution from a small, passionate collective into a thriving regional society dedicated to advancing headache education and improving the lives of patients across the South. The SHS’s mission, to improve the quality of life for patients with headaches and facial pain by promoting education and facilitating communication among professionals, continues to inspire my commitment to service.

Over the past four years, I have served as a Member-at-Large, and prior to that, as both Chair and Co-Chair of the Education Committee. These roles have afforded me a deep understanding of SHS’s operational needs, strategic direction, and educational priorities. I have been privileged to contribute to the development and execution of programs that align with SHS’s longstanding commitment to high-quality professional education.

My professional background complements the responsibilities of Treasurer and Education Chair. I have owned and operated a private headache-focused clinic for 25 years, which has required meticulous budget creation, financial stewardship, and long-term planning. This is directly aligned with SHS’s responsibilities as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with transparent, mission-driven financial practices. Ensuring that SHS maintains a sustainable budget and positions itself for future growth is essential to advancing its mission, and these are tasks I am well-prepared to undertake.

Education remains one of my greatest passions. Throughout my career, I have delivered countless educational presentations to healthcare professionals, students, community groups, and industry colleagues. In doing so, I have worked to ensure that information about headache disorders is accurate, accessible, and clinically meaningful. As SHS continues to expand its annual meetings, CME offerings, and regional leadership in headache education, the role of Education Chair will be pivotal. The Society’s ongoing commitment to robust, high-quality programming, reflected in its annual scientific meetings, deserves leadership that is experienced, dedicated, and deeply knowledgeable.

I would welcome the opportunity to continue serving SHS in a leadership capacity and to help guide the Society through its next era of growth, fiscal responsibility, and educational excellence.
