Carrie Dougherty, MD, is professor of neurology and program director of the headache medicine fellowship at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. A proud Hoosier, she received her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Dougherty completed her neurology residency at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington DC, followed by a fellowship in headache medicine at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. She is board-certified in neurology with subspecialty certification in headache medicine.

Dr. Dougherty is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, and the American Headache Society. Within AHS, she serves as a co-chair of the Women’s Leadership Development committee, the Fellowship Program Directors Committee,  and the Scottsdale Headache Symposium Planning committee. She is past president of Southern Headache Society and served as a representative member on the board of the Alliance for Headache Disorders Advocacy.  She has participated in Headache on the Hill since 2016. She is committed to improving the lives of her patients through her clinical work, as well as education and advocacy.

During Dr Dougherty’s tenure as President, the society launched their State Liaison program, with member representatives from each state, and created an APP taskforce to promote APP education and leadership.
