2024 Nominations: Treasurer

Since I graduated in 2007, I have focused my career on Headache Medicine. With that focus in mind, I joined the American Headache Society, the Headache SIG of the Child Neurology Society, the AAN section on Headache and Facial Pain, and then the Southern Headache Society in 2012 shortly after it was formed by our founding members, Dr.s. Morris Maisel and Brian Loftus. I have also had a career of service within the different societies. I have served as chair of the Bylaws Committee of the Child Neurology Society, Director of the 2000 Annual Meeting of the Texas Neurological Society, Co-Director of one of the precourses at the Scottsdale Headache Symposium in 2023, and am currently a board member of both The Southern Headache Society and Alliance for Headache Disorders Advocacy, serving as Treasurer on the latter.

I was first appointed to the Southern Headache Society board of directors in 2020 where I served as Communications Directors from 2020-2022. I was then re-elected to the board in 2022, and hope to be re-elected to the SHS board of directors this year, where I am running for the treasurer position. Having gained invaluable experience from serving as the Treasurer of the Alliance for Headache Disorder Advocacy, where I also served as Co-Director for the Committee writing the board of director rules and regulations for the newly formed Headache Alliance, I hope I can bring this experience to the SHS board.

I am also currently serving as Co-Director of the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Southern Headache Society, to further maintain my engagement in the service of the our Society.

All the while, I have also been focusing on advancing my career both in Academia initially and then in private practice, but still with academic engagement. And throughout my career, I have been involved in every aspect of Headache Medicine, from teaching and research, to billing, collection, and practice building. I have become to be known as someone who thinks outside of the proverbial “box” in the development of treatment strategies for my patients. Therefore I am frequently asked to present on different aspect of Headache Medicine. In addition, I have had several times other physicians, who are already established, come and shadow me in my practice, to better develop and grow their practice.

I have enjoyed every aspect of my work within all the societies and committees, and have develop relationships with many of the members that I cherish deeply. These relationships foster collaborations, and I have always focused on team building through any task I have undertaken. It would be a great opportunity to continue this line of service that weaves throughout my career, if I have the honor of being reelected to the board of directors of the Southern Headache Society, and specifically to serve as its Treasurer.
